The New School and Ryerson University present a collaborative exhibition exploring the intersections of design, food systems, and communities. On view October 1 through December 15 at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons, Living Concrete/Carrot City is a dynamic collection of multi-media installations, maps, sound compositions, field guides, interactive websites, products, and videos that document innovations in urban agriculture. In addition to the exhibition, the curators will hold a weekly conversation series with local and regional leaders focused on the ideas and actions that are driving the urban food revolution. Parsons will celebrate the exhibition’s opening with a free public reception on September 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. the gallery. The evening will featuring creative ‘edible cocktails’ by the Cross(x) Species Adventure Club, a cooking demonstration by students of the Summer Youth Employment Program (a partnership between BK Farmyards and Growing Leaders Brooklyn), and locally-made Hudson New York corn whiskey donated by Tuthilltown Spirits.
