Port cities are very evidently and doubtless more than many other cities, directly and extremely exposed to the consequences of these global crises. They can suffer them and risk decline or, on the contrary, choose to seize onto the fantastic change of development model which is announced in order to put winning innovatory strategies in place. Complex and multiform, associating local problematic issues and worldwide ambitions, the port city is a fabulous laboratory for the implementation of projects for sustainable development. It is up to local governing bodies to know how to seize the opportunities on offer, and to transform a threat into a project for the future for each port city and for each port. After having drawn up in Sydney in 2006 a Charter for the sustainable development of port cities, after having discussed innovatory port-city practices in 2008 in Stockholm, AIVP will place their 12th International Conference in a follow-up of the work of the Copenhagen Summit. Prior to the summit of Mexico in December 2010, the Buenos Aires and Rosario conference has the ambition of expressing the voices of the port cities to the international bodies, the partners of their development.
