SPECULATIS is a workshop which will take place in Oporto, Portugal, July 10-17th, 2010 Instructors: Ezio Blasetti and Carla Leitao in collaboration with: OPO'Lab "Speculatis" develops a context to conceptualize the intersection of lighting systems and their possible interaction with user movement, programmatic space and morphological innovation in relationship to advanced modeling techniques and fabrication technologies. The platform of exploration intends to foster awareness on the potential of modulating relationships of light intensity with various environmental dynamic factors and their relationship to program in architectural space and landscapes at large providing an opportunity to rethink concepts of space and ambiance as generators of architectural and urban space - while learning and applying tools to fully realize them as products, objects, spaces or other entities. The workshop will be divided into 2 parts. The first part - "machina" - will consist of seminars and practical classes addressing conceptualization, modeling and fabrication techniques for the construction of possible innovative structures of chandeliers. Both seminars and classes will approach the intersection of concepts of morphology, structure and interactivity and the capability of tuning those with several advanced modeling techniques and fabrication technologies. The second part - "lux" - will consist of seminars and practical classes that encompass the full implementation of the interactive lighting system in the structure realized formerly in the first section. Students will learn techniques to create sensing of input and modulation of light output, explore integration of respective electronic systems in their structures and complete a final chandelier with full operational capacity. http://speculatis.com more info can be found at: [email protected]
