Young people explore architecture through design projects, field trips and building activities during these 3-day programs at the Center for Architecture, Tuesday - Thursday from 9 am - 4 pm. Students bring lunch daily. For grades 3 - 12. Green NYC (Grades 3 – 6): New York City is almost five years into its exciting PlaNYC 2030 program which aims to make New York one of the greenest places to live by the year 2030. How old will you be then? Do you have ideas about how to make New York a greener, more livable city? Learn more about current plans for transforming our city and create your own designs for sustainable buildings and landscapes you’d like to use 20 years from now! Innovative urban design ideas from the Center’s exhibitions and visits to a local project site will give students ideas and inspiration to develop their own green designs just in time for Earth Day 2011. Parents are invited to join us for a presentation of their projects on the last day. Program is limited to 18 students. Digital Design with Google Sketch-Up (Grades 7 – 12): In this 3-day program held in the Center's computer lab, students in 7th - 12th grade will learn how to create their own 3D architectural designs using Google Sketch-Up. This studio assigns students the exciting task of producing their own personal shelter from the ground up; designing the form, materials, location and furnishings. Students will also do some hand drawing and model making to help them connect their digital designs to the real world. Participants will take home a CD of their digital designs. Program is limited to 10 students to allow for individualized instruction and pacing. Tuition is $250/child; Registration is first-come, first-served.
