Young people explore architecture through design projects, field trips and building activities during these 3-day programs at the Center for Architecture, Tuesday - Thursday from 9 am - 4 pm. Students bring lunch daily. For grades 3 - 12. From Books to Buildings (Grades 3 – 6): Have you ever wanted to visit Hogwarts or take a peek inside James’ giant peach? Let your imagination be your guide as you create your own 3-D model of a building or place from a favorite book during this 3-day vacation studio for 3 - 6 graders. Learn how to create 3-D architectural models and see how professionals do it on a visit to a top designer’s studio. Students can bring their chosen book as a reference or work from memory to bring a favorite fictional place to life. Parents are invited to visit our land of fiction on the last day of the class. Program is limited to 18 students. Street Smart Designer (Grades 7 – 12): Discover the many ways that design affects our daily lives and develop a great project for your portfolio in this design studio focusing on the architectural elements we use and see every day on NYC streets. Students will become design savvy as they craft their own designs for street furniture and fixtures that look great and work well for real New Yorkers. In addition to creating drawings and models, students will learn how to use Google Sketch-Up to create 3-D digital renderings of their design and visit a professional design studio. Program is limited to 18 students. Tuition is $250/child; Registration is first-come, first-served.
