Summer Course BES URL Barcelona: Workshop City and Culture.

The summer course deals with the relationship between urban landscapes and culture and is oriented towards students of architecture, landscape, graphic, industrial and urban design in the last stage of their studies. A compact multi-disciplinary design studio counts on theoretical or background input-sessions and visits to design studios and built projects within the city of Barcelona. The course has a multi-layered set-up and as a consequence of its compact calendar, experiences will be defined by intense and interactive working dynamics, all seen within the urban fabric of vibrating Metropolis like Barcelona. It is the city’s people, its streets and squares, its buildings and associated events defining the main contents of the course. Inspired by the existing city itself, a design exercise about public space will be developed during the course. The design process within the studio will obtain a competition-like rhythm and will follow small group dynamics with emphasis on intense experiences. The project will have an in-situ character as it integrates street interviews, on site mapping and various visits.
