Winners for YAC's Experiential Beer Garden announced

By Mackenzie Goldberg|

Friday, Apr 21, 2017

It's Friday, which means many are probably dreaming of that ice cold beer that they will reward themselves with, for a week's work, at the end of the day. Beer is one of the oldest beverages appearing in some of our earliest civilizations. In Ancient Egypt, wages were paid in beer and the beverage was enjoyed by both adults and children – don't worry, there is evidence to suggest it wasn't as intoxicating as our modern day libation. Since then, beer has gone through many evolutions and while it has succumbed to the pressures of mass production there is a growing shift towards artisanal production that we can be thankful for.

Beer gardens, while originating in Munich, have proliferated in the 21st century and many breweries around the world have begun hosting their own outdoor areas dedicated to socializing over a drink. Villa Zarri – one of the leading Italian breweries – is riding this wave and looking to have a beer garden of their own. The distillery is investing in an ambitious architectural project and has held a design competition for the Experiential Beer Garden. Located in the heart of the Emilian countryside, Villa Zarri wishes to transform a beautiful, neoclassical, mid-16th century villa into a sanctuary for beer lovers. Organized by Young Architects Competitions, the jury, comprised of New York-based interior designer Adam Tihany,  and Italian architects Fiorenzo Valbonesi, Nicola Pizzol, Archea Associati and Guido Fini Zarri, has announced the winners. Take a look at some of the victorious entries below.
