Join Archinect at Archinect Outpost on March 29th, from 7–9pm to host artist Thomas Demand and The Complete Papers, the comprehensive survey of the artist's photographs to date.
Published by MACK Books, The Complete Papers is an extensive volume encompassing all of Thomas Demand’s work over the past 28 years, together with the most critical texts written about his practice.
Thomas Demand will be in attendance to sign books. Limited copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event, first come first serve, or you can reserve a copy from our online store to pick up at the event or have shipped to you.
You can also RSVP for the event here.
From MACK Books: "The book includes previously unseen early works from 1990, together with reference reproductions on every one of his pieces. A newly commissioned interview with Russell Ferguson, new texts by Jeff Wall and Alexander Kluge, contributions by Parveen Adams, Francesco Bonami, Teju Cole, Beatriz Colomina, Jeffrey Eugenides, Julia Franck, Hal Foster, Rachel Kushner, Ben Lerner, Jacques Rancière, Gary Shteyngart, Neville Wakefield, to name a few, is concluded by a complete exhibition listing and bibliography."
"Thomas Demand creates large-scale photographs that probe the relationship between reproduction and original. Trained as a sculptor, the German artist reconstructs media images of complex interior scenes using ephemeral materials like paper and cardboard. After photographing the painstakingly-crafted, life-sized models, Demand destroys them, leaving only photographic evidence of their fleeting existence. Demand's images often suggest recent activity, yet are eerily devoid of people, resembling the appearance of a film set or even a forensic photograph."
Located in the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles, Archinect Outpost offers a curated collection of small-run, independently published monographs, design objects, apparel, architecture publications and Brutal Coffee, Archinect's new line of seasonally rotating, single-origin coffee beans. We have also hosted events for Neil Denari, Jose Sanchez, Craig Hodgetts, Lydia Kallipoliti and other noteworthy publications.
We hope to see you there!
