Flashback: The "Treedom" lights up Budapest's Sziget Festival

At the heart of Liberty Island in Budapest's 2015 Sziget Festival last month stood "Treedom", an alluring forest of wooden trees where festivalgoers gathered and met up during the weeklong arts and culture event. Designed by a team led by Parisian practice Atelier YokYok, Treedom was the winning the commission in a competition for the festival this past May.

Things have been looking good this summer for the up-and-coming Atelier YokYok. Other recent projects from the firm include "Les voûtes filantes", a cobalt-blue threaded installation that was selected to be exhibited at the 2015 Cahors June Festival in France.

Check out the latest photos of Treedom right below.

Described by Atelier YokYok as a 'wooden open air mini cathedral', the geometrical TREEDOM forest was built in nine days before Budapest's huge Sziget Festival, which took place from August 10-17 and attracted a staggering number of 435,000 people. The installation included 37 poles with heights of 10 meters or higher, as well as more than 200 wooden boards.

At night, Treedom lit up with an inviting glow, thanks to French manufacturer Sammode who provided the lighting and worked with Atelier YokYok for the lighting design. After the festival ended, Treedom was dismounted in two days.

TREEDOM was designed by a collaborative group that included Atelier YokYok + Laure Qaremy (consulting/logistic/competition finding) and a team of carpenters + architects: Mathilde, Laure, Flo, François, Amélie, Pyv, Chloé, Martin, Cyrille and Zoltan.
