Tainan Public Library Design Competition

The current Tainan Municipal Library is located on Gongyuan N Road. Since Tainan County and Tainan City merged, the Tainan Municipal Library can no longer satisfy an increasing population. There should be a foresighted planning for the future library’s function and its role of the city.

The Tainan City Government invites all domestic and international teams to take part in the Design Competition for Design and Construction Supervision Service of Tainan Public Library Project, which is going to be an important construction of Tainan’s cultural development.  The Tainan Public Library is going to be located in the old site of the Yongkang Artillery School. The area of the construction site is over 15,000m² with a building coverage ratio of 60% and a floor area ratio of 250%. The estimated floor area required of the library is approximately 35,000m². The budget of construction contract is approximately NTD$1,462,000,000 (excludes the cost of air pollution control, public arts, external services connection fees, IT facilities of the library and the office automation furniture). The Service Fee for this procurement (Design and Construction Supervision Service) is calculated with a fixed percentage of 6% of the Total Construction Cost. 

The library is expected to accommodate at least 600,000 collections and 1,000 categories of magazine. It is also anticipated to include a compact storage of 400,000 volumes, a public service area, as well as an operation and management area.
