Archinect Call for Submissions: XS

Register/Submit Deadline:  Tuesday, Nov 15, 201611:59 PMPDT

Last time, Archinect went XXL. Now, they want the opposite—the tiny, the slight, the subtle and obscure: the XS. Archinect is looking for the small but fierce interventions, tweaks, ideas and yes, even buildings that push architecture in a constructive direction by going small.

》PROJECT SUBMISSIONS: Small World

Working in architectural scale can be thought of along the same lines as eating an elephant—a big meal, one small bite at a time. But some bites can stand alone as their own project, operating on a smaller scale than usual, perhaps with a surprising new function. Send Archinect the projects (built or not) you consider to be part of architecture's smaller working scales—the XS creations making an XXL impact.

》EDITORIAL SUBMISSIONS: Napkin Critic

Good criticism makes its points clearly and succinctly. Hooking readers also means establishing a perspective and communicating ideas economically. So, this editorial call challenges your critical editing skills to produce the most compelling pieces of architectural criticism, in haiku form. 17 syllables total, in three lines (five, seven and five syllables sequentially), to convince the reader of your architectural position.

And OK, if 17 syllables isn't enough for you, Archinect will accept criticism up to 100 words.

The deadline for submitting is Tuesday, November 15 at 11:59 pm Pacific.

The open call is not a contest. Archinect reviews submissions for publication as they are received, and features as many as are deemed worthy. Due to the volume of inquiries received, Archinect can only respond to your submission if they decide to feature it.

For more information, and to submit, fill out this form.

Still have questions? Ask Amelia.

Check out some featured work from prior open calls below:

↑ August Games: London is a game of life or death in 'Metropoly'

↑ July Domesticity: Stripped of cosmetics, but imbued with substance: inside the Berard Residence

↑ Money March: Meow Parlour is a modern hangout for NYC's adoptable cats

↑ February Furniture: Leftover inspiration: the construction aesthetic of "Chair 6.0"
