Purpose
Advanced study in any area of architectural investigation that
will effectively contribute to the knowledge, teaching or practice of
the art and science of architecture. The proposed investigation is to
result in a publicly available written work, design project, research
paper, or other form of presentation to be offered at the Center for
Architecture.
Award
Single award of up to $15,000. This award amount may be split at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
Eligibility
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen engaged in the profession of
architecture or a related field and have received their first
professional degree at least five years prior to the date of
application.
Deadline
Applications must be received on February 1st by 5:00 pm EST. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. No exceptions.
Jury Guidelines
Proposals should engage in advanced architectural investigation
that contributes to the practice, teaching, or knowledge of the Art and
Science of Architecture. The Brunner Grant is a prestigious award given
to mid-career architects. Proposals will be judged on the following
criteria:
Qualified: Applicant qualifications
Need: The project cannot be completed without funding
Contemporary: Engages with contemporary architectural issues
Relevant: Engages current local and global issues
Useful: Project results in useful end product
Application Requirements
- Cover Sheet: The cover sheet must be placed on the front of hard copy submissions.
- Project Description: In approximately 1,000 words, explain the background information for the project, the objective of study, as well as the method and scope of work. Applicants should keep in mind that their proposal will be reviewed by practicing architects.
- Curriculum Vitae: Maximum length is three pages. Applicants may include an extended resume as supporting material.
- Budget: Applicants should include all expenses associated with the project, as well as any additional sources of funding. Applicants must provide proof of matching funds and/or grants if such funding is critical to the submission.
- Work Plan: A timeline of project activities and completion dates. The feasibility of budget and work plan is taken into consideration.
- Three Letters of Recommendation: Letters of recommendation must be received by February 1st. Do not submit more than three letters.
- Application Fee: The $50.00 entry fee may be paid online through our secure third-party platform or in the form of a check, submitted with the hard copy application, made payable to the Center for Architecture.
Note
- Additional supporting documentation must not exceed five pages.
- Recipients will be expected to give a public presentation about the Brunner funded project at the Center for Architecture within two years of the award date.
