PRIX W 2018
Dear students and young architects,
For 12 years, the Wilmotte Foundation has been promoting the meeting of heritage and contemporary creation through the organization of the Prix W, dedicated to students and young architects.
For its 8th edition, we are pleased to invite you to revitalize the Fort de Villiers, located in the parisian inner ring. You will have to use the architectural grafting and turn it into a complex dedicated to innovation, sport and culture.
Yours projects will have to be in line with the organization of the 2024 Olympics but not limited to it.
The best projects, selected by an international jury, will be remunerated, exhibited in Venice at the Gallery of the Wilmotte Foundation and published in a book dedicated to the competition.
We count on you to innovate within the project constraints, stimulate your creativity, and propose a project at the level of the site and its future ambitions.
We look forward to receiving your proposals that will turn the Fort de Villiers into a unique place.
Now it's your turn
Jean Michel Wilmotte
CONTEXT
The Fort de Villiers is located in the inner ring suburbs of Paris, in the municipality of Noisy-le-Grand, 1 kilometer south of the city center.
Surrounded by the A4 highway, its neighboring environment is residential, consisting of municipal and athletic associations.
HISTORY
The Fort de Villiers is one of the units on the second outer ring of Paris’ fortified city walls.
Erected on a terrain of 4 hectares located in Noisy-le-Grand, this structure was designed to protect Paris by the General Séré de Rivieres from 1878 to 1880.
Originally owned by the Minister of Defense, it housed a military barrack. From housing shelter to reception area for sporting associations, the fort has served many functions over the years.
Today, it is owned by the city of Noisy-le-Grand and its purpose is still being defined.
PROGRAM
The Fort de Villiers of tomorrow will be resolutely turned towards the future in all its dimensions.
You are invited to create a central meeting point, an authentic and innovative sport and cultural centre, becoming a true green lung for the city.
This “Sport Factory” will also host festivals and temporary events. It will have to be in line with the organization of the 2024 Olympics but not limited to it.
- A MEETING PLACE
You are invited to transform the Fort de Villiers into a place open to the public, providing overall support for meetings, the exchange of ideas, as well as sporting and cultural events.
- A CENTER DEDICATED TO INNOVATION, CULTURE AND SPORTS
Looking to the future, this forum will host sports as well as cultural activities that invent innovate and accompany the emergence of new uses and new projects.
Your proposal may include: co-working spaces, venues, congresses, seminars, sports, training and wellness rooms as well as workshops, catering, housing, etc.
An event program related to the Olympic Games of 2024 can be considered, contributing to the influence of le Grand Paris.
- A GREEN LUNG
Reveal the landscaping of the site, make it a real place for walking, discovery and relaxation: sports courses, playgrounds, urban agriculture, allotments gardens, sculpture park, etc.
As a development lever to the city, your proposals could include a green housing development or an innovative hotel complex integrated built into the site.
