Emergency Operations Center

COMPETITION THEME 

Emergencies strike suddenly and without warning. They level cities to the ground and tear down buildings as though they were made of sand. In almost no time at all everything is destroyed and all that remains is the realization that you have to get up and start all over again from scratch. In recent years the occurrence of deluges and flooding have increased dramatically. Analogously, conflicts and financial crises persist and lead to the development of serious humanitarian emergencies which put the lives of millions of people at risk. Resolving an emergency of any kind means re-establishing peace and security. The crisis must be dealt with in a timely and coordinated manner that includes reception, sensibility, and awareness. What we are looking for, therefore, is the design of a structure that will house an EOC (Emergency Operations Center) and that can help to facilitate the humanitarian operations of international organizations, allowing them to act with the utmost efficiency. The EOC structure is intended to be a model which supports the countless humanitarian initiatives that international organizations implement in an effort to create a better world. 

JURY 

Architects, students, designers from all the world in individual participation or with a team having at least 1 members under 35. JURY The internationally jury is composed by K. Kuma (Kengo Kuma & Associates), A. Ghirardelli (SBGA), L. Nunes (Architecture Sans Frontières International), M. Morojele (MMA Design Studio), W. Baricchi (CNAPPC), P. N. Tumubweinee (University of Cape Town), M. Jectey-Nyarko (Kwame Nkrumah University). The scientific committee is composed by S. D'Urso (Università di Catania), R. Vecchio (Balouo Salo) and Moussa Souane (CCAI Sedhiou)

 CALENDAR 

1. Early registration – from 24th January to 15st February 2020
2.  Normal registration - from 16nd February to 7th March 2020
3.  Late registration – from 8th March to 31st April, 2020 
4. Submission deadline - 27th April 2020 
5. Winners announced – 16th May 2020 

PRIZES 

1. 1st Place: € 5,000 + Internship at Kengo Kuma Associates, Tokyo, Japan 
2. 2nd Place: € 1,500 + Internship at SBGA, Milan, Italy 
3. 3rd Place: € 1,000 + Internship at Mopheti Morojele, Johannesburg, South Africa
4.  Honorable mentions -  5 mentions - 20 finalists 

All awarded projects will be published in the competition’s official book and on its website, transmitted to architectural websites and other architectural contexts, and displayed at architectural events
