Call for applications: Marion Mahony Emerging Practitioner Fellowship

MIT Department of Architecture invites applications for the Marion Mahony Emerging Practitioner Fellowship, named in honor of alumna Marion Mahony, for the academic year beginning in September 2020. This is a full time one-year appointment.


The Mahony Fellowship is a position that offers an "emerging practitioner" the opportunity to advance her / his research, teaching, and practice within the multi-disciplinary environment of the Department of Architecture. The position is oriented to architects with several years of experience that wish to advance their careers through an association with the faculty and academic environment of the Department, as well as the broader community of the School of Architecture and Planning. An applicant should be able to articulate an intellectual agenda that engages the resources of the Department to advance design research and/ or creative practice.

The position offers the opportunity to teach design in the MArch program at Core and / or Option studios, and / or the undergraduate studios in design. Applicants will be expected to teach three courses per academic year, including studios, seminars, workshop and lecture courses, as well as develop a research agenda to be shared through a lecture or exhibition of the Department. Applicants are also expected to participate in the service activities and cultural life of the Department.

 Candidates should submit an application to include the following: a letter of interest; a one-two page curriculum vitae; a proposed research and teaching agenda; a pdf portfolio of work from creative practice (not more than 20 pages); names and contact information of three references. Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend an interview at MIT.
