U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon: 2021 Design Challenge

Your school is invited to participate in the upcoming U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon^® 2021 Design Challenge collegiate competition. The deadline for team applications for the Design Challenge is October 20, 2020. All teams who apply are accepted as Participant Teams. Read the Rules to learn more about participation!

The annual Solar Decathlon Design Challenge spans one or two academic semesters and inspires student teams to design residential or commercial building solutions that are evaluated for how well they meet the nation’s demand for energy-efficient, innovative, cost-effective, and resilient buildings that respond to targeted community needs. Winning teams blend design excellence and smart energy production with innovation, market potential, and building efficiency.

The Solar Decathlon Design Challenge provides:

• A structure for successful project-led learning that can be integrated into a senior design project, capstone program, building science course, design studio, or extracurricular club
• Free access to online building science education and cutting-edge software and tools to augment classroom learning
• Unique student career development and networking opportunities through engagement with industry expert jurors, sponsors, and industry partners
• Recognition for participating collegiate institutions following their successful participation
