Research drives tomorrow’s structural steel innovations--and the American Institute of Steel Construction is looking for an outstanding researcher to receive its flagship research fellowship.
Applications for the 2024 Milek Fellowship are due September 15, 2023.
Since 2004, AISC has given a promising non-tenured university faculty member the AISC Milek Fellowship (formerly the AISC Faculty Fellowship), a four-year, $50,000-per-year award.
“The Milek Fellowship is a unique opportunity for AISC to support the next generation of up-and-coming researchers whose ideas keep structural steel on the cutting edge,” said AISC Director of Research Devin Huber, PE, PhD. “Since its inception, the Fellowship has funded innovative and ground-breaking research into new ideas like using adhesives in steel-to-steel connections and developing optimized asymmetric I-beams for use in steel building applications.”
The Fellowship also supports the next generation of researchers, as at least half of the funding must go toward a particularly promising doctoral candidate.
The faculty member whose application is selected will be identified as the AISC Milek Fellow in selected publications and other venues, like NASCC: The Steel Conference; they will also receive free Steel Conference registration during their four years as a Milek Fellow.
