EnviroBuild is excited to announce the “Reimagining London’s High-Rise Green Spaces” design contest, inviting all aspiring architects and designers to showcase their innovative solutions for urban living. This contest provides a unique opportunity to present ground-breaking designs for medium or high-density residential or mixed-use developments in London, with a focus on sustainability and incorporating outdoor spaces at height.

Prize:

A £2,000 prize will be awarded to the winner, selected by a panel of esteemed professional architects. Additionally, the winner will have the opportunity to present their design at our London Design Festival event, attended by key architecture firms, construction professionals, and the general public.

Key Dates:

  • Submission Deadline: August 27th, 2024
  • Shortlist Announced: September 2nd, 2024
  • Exhibition Dates: September 14th - 22nd, 2024
  • Awards Evening: September 18th, 2024, from 5:30 pm Location:
  • EnviroBuild Showroom, 29 Pear Tree St, London EC1V 3AP

Competition Overview:

The competition aims to address the challenges of urban living by encouraging creative, eco-friendly designs that integrate green spaces into high-rise environments. Participants are asked to reimagine balconies and terraces as integral parts of high-density urban settings, using cutting-edge materials and sustainable design principles. Esteemed judges, including Laura Stephenson, Director at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, and Kathryn Tombling, Architect Principal at BDP, will select the 10 top designs which will make up our “Emerging Architects Redesign Outdoor Urban Life” Exhibition which will be open throughout London Design Festival. The winner will receive the top prize of £2,000 and has the chance to present their design at the awards evening in front of top London architecture firms and design experts.

Design Brief:

We invite you to create and submit your concept designs for medium or high-density residential or mixed-use developments that creatively offer outdoor spaces at height, where balconies or terraces are the standout feature. Showcasing a fun and creative architectural concept. Whether starting from scratch or reimagining an iconic London landmark, your design should innovate and bring fresh ideas to traditional homes, highrises, or landmarks. Emphasising sustainability in your design approach for extra consideration. This contest focuses on conceptual designs that push the boundaries of urban living and architectural creativity.

Judging Criteria:

  •  Innovativeness: How unique and ground-breaking is the design concept? Creativity and Fun: To what extent does the design inspire and evoke a sense of enjoyment and creativity?
  • Quality of Outdoor Space: How well does the design utilise and enhance balconies or terraces as functional and attractive outdoor areas?
  •  Aesthetic: Is the design visually appealing and harmonious with its surroundings?
  • Sustainability: What measures does the design incorporate to minimise environmental impact and promote sustainable living?

Note: Designs that effectively balance creativity, sustainability, and buildability into a cohesive architectural concept, while incorporating non-combustible materials for designs above 11m, will receive additional consideration.

Presentation Format:

To enter please submit a PDF document which can be easily printed as an A1 presentation that includes at least two images of your proposed design, 250 word (circa) statement explaining your design inspiration and aspirations. Additional materials and 3D models are welcome but are not required.
