Submission Deadline: Wednesday, Jun 4, 202511:59 PMPDT
About the Competition:
The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) is pleased to announce the Concrete Masonry Design Competition for the 2024-2025 academic year. The competition is a partnership with the Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association (CMHA). The competition will challenge students, working individually or in teams, to explore a variety of design issues related to masonry construction on a Fire Station with an emphasis on local civic engagement.
The Challenge:
The design competition asks students to use concrete masonry products as the primary material in the design of a state-of-the-art Fire Station. The fire station needs to accommodate diverse functions, including equipment and vehicle storage, maintenance, gender inclusive housing accommodations, recreation, administration, training, community education and civic events. Concrete masonry is a flexible, resilient and durable material, and provides vast opportunities for form, function and expression.
Awards + Recognition:
Jurors will select First, Second, and Third prize winners, in addition to a selected number of honorable mentions, all at the discretion of the jury. A total of $20,000 USD will be distributed by ACSA, in the following manner to the winners:
First Place: $8,000 USD (Student), $3,000 USD (Faculty)
Second Place: $4,000 USD (Student), $2,000 USD (Faculty)
Third Place: $2,000 USD (Student), $1,000 USD (Faculty)
Eligibility:
Because the support of CMHA is largely derived from masonry companies whose markets are mainly in the U.S. and Canada, the ACSA/CMHA Student Competition is open to students and/or student teams from ACSA Full and Candidate Member Schools, as well as ACSA Affiliate Members Schools from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico only.
