Open Architectural Project Competition For The Arrivals Terminal Of Vilnius Airport

Lithuanian Airport announced an open international architectural for the future development of the Vilnius Airport arrivals terminal. Competition was announced on 18th November 2024, when all the Competition documents were made publicly available in the CVP IS system (Central Public Procurement Information System - https://pirkimai.eviesiejipirkimai.lt/ - a digital platform for public procurement procedures). How to register to the Central Public Procurement Information System (CVP IS)

The existing Airport infrastructure needs to be adapted to the rapidly increasing passenger flows and, at the same time, a more efficient and comfortable environment for passengers should be created. Therefore, Vilnius airport invites architects to design not only a new arrivals terminal, but also to connect it into a whole with the future Rail-Baltica gauge underground connection-station, as well as with the new departure terminal and the central square, which reconstruction is starting already in 2025. The area of the competition is 7,86 ha approx. The new arrival terminal T5 will feature all the necessary premises for usual functions (luggage system, welcome hall, premises for catering and other services, as well as offices for the Airport administration and offices for rent. In the complex, a new hotel is to be proposed.

The entries will be evaluated by the evaluation jury, consisting of 5 members, prevailed by professional architects:

Mariia Grachova (Architect, Chapman Taylor Brussels Director)

Tom Holtmann (Architect, Associate Partner, Senior Project Leader, Architect MNAL)

2 Jury members, delegated by “Lithuanian Airport” (TBC)

Alternate members:

Rolandas Palekas (architect, “Paleko ARCH studija”)

An alternate member, delegated by Lithuanian Airports (TBC)

Evaluation criteria:

• Quality of the architectural, urban idea (35%)
• Functionality and rationality (30%)
• Passenger’s experience (20%)
• Price of design services (15%)

Monetary prizes:

• 1st place – EUR 50 000;
• 2nd place – EUR 35 000;
• 3rd place – EUR 25 000.
• 2 honorary mentions 5000 Eur each.

Organizers: The international competition is initiated by  Lithuanian Airports. The competition procedure is being organized by the Architects Association of Lithuania.
