AR House awards 2025

*Judge announcements* 

Manuel Cervantes, founder of Manuel Cervantes Estudio has joined the judging panel. 

Cervantes is no stranger to the AR House awards. Casa Avándaro and the housing for rubber workers he designed were both highly commended, in 2020 and 2023 respectively, while his post-hurricane houses were chosen as last year’s winner. 

Jeannette Kuo, co-founding partner,  Karamuk Kuo and professor of architecture and construction at the Technical University of Munich has joined the judging panel.

Kuo is has been shortlisted for AR house in 2021 for House on a slope, in 2019 for the W Awards Moira Gemmill Prize and only last week for AR New into Old 2025 with Cannady Hall.

Catherin Ince, writer and curator has joined the judging panel.

(Catherine) Ince has held senior positions in major cultural institutions, from the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum in Denmark to the Victoria & Albert Museum, Barbican Art Gallery and British Council in London.  She is currently a trustee of The Cosmic House and Jencks Foundation and is the inaugural Charles and Ray Eames Foundation research fellow.

Launched in 2010, the AR House awards recognise originality and excellence in the design of dwellings. The house is a key rite of passage for architects, critical to the ferment and crystallisation of new ideas, offering the potential for innovation. The awards recognise projects built in the last five years that demonstrate creativity, originality and ideas that push the house forward – whatever the scale or construction cost. The judges’ chosen projects will all be visited by an independent critic and photographer before a decision is made on the winner.

Past winners and finalists include Manuel Cervantes Estudio, Kochi Architect’s Studio, Ekar Architects, Atelier Tho.A, Chat Architects, Fernanda Canales Arquitectura, Brillhart Architecture, Nomos, Shota Nakanishi Architects, Manthey Kula, Studio Bua, AREA (Architecture Research Athens), Simon Pendal Architect, Davidson Rafailidis , HNNA and Peter Besley, Kentaro Ishida Architects Studio, dmvA Architects, ADO and many more.
