WHAT IS 2X8?
2x8 is an annual student exhibition and scholarship program that brings together selected work from schools across California and connects emerging designers to the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry. In fall 2025, 2x8:Resilience awarded $15,000 in scholarships to fourteen students, and even more is expected to be awarded in 2026 through its self-sufficient scholarship program. As in past years, a respected jury will evaluate submitted student projects and award prizes based on merit, with final scholarship values directly shaped by the program’s fundraising efforts.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Each participating academic program selects two student projects that best represent its vision to enter the competition. A jury of prominent professionals evaluates the submissions, scholarship winners are selected, and all submitted work is featured in the exhibition.
2026 THEME
2x8: RECLAIM invites students and professionals to explore how architecture can take back trust, access, shared space, identity, and purpose for the public. In a time shaped by climate crisis, housing pressure, social fragmentation, and growing demands for accountability, RECLAIM positions architecture as both a design discipline and a civic act. The theme challenges participants to move beyond creating new objects and instead see design as a way to repair, reuse, adapt, and advocate. As part of 2x8’s student exhibition and scholarship program, RECLAIM highlights work that reasserts architecture’s role in serving the public good and communicating the value of design to our communities.
