1. Design Brief
“my.robot” - live, play & learn
We invite you (not limited to Industrial Design undergrad, graduate & professionals) to create social robot (robot interactions) for the year 2020, an age where intelligent social robots built with consilience will grey the boundaries of human & machine interaction on a day-to-day basis.
With the growing need for intelligent autonomous systems to improve human daily task/ well being, your innovation will shape how people interact with robots when robots are expected to be our companion in our daily environment/interaction (not limited to healthcare, service, entertainment, home, transport, sports and education)
This inaugural competition will consider submission within the context of social robots.
Your entry should address innovative ideas that demonstrates (not limited to) creative use of technologies, intelligence, interactivity, adaptability as an overall concept application(s) that will impact/improve human tasks & well-being; which governs by laws of robotics(Isaac Asimov);

2. Awards & Acknowledgements
The jury will select 3 winning entries that will receive cash prize awards:
First Prize: USD 1,000 (TBC)
Second Prize: USD 500 (TBC)
Third Prize: USD 200 (TBC)
All cash prize awards are paid gross/before income tax.
** A selected number of entries will be fabricated into a 1:5 scaled model of their design.
** A poster exhibition of the finalist’s entries will be shown during a press event at ICSR2010, Singapore.
3. General
3.1 This competition is organised and administered by the International Conference on Social Robotics 2010 (ICSR2010)
3.2. The ICSR2010 Robotic Design Competition will be known as the “ICSR2010 RDC” from herein.
3.3. The ICSR2010 reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend the ICSR2010 RDC should causes beyond its control corrupt the administration, security or proper participation in the ICSR2010 RDC.
3.4. The ICSR2010 assumes no responsibility for technical or natural conditions that prevent the reception and judging of ICSR2010 RDC submissions.
3.5. The ICSR2010 reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
4. Competition Rules
4.1. This competition is open to any student or professionals (regardless from any industry) in the world.
4.2. Registration is free and applicants must accept the competition conditions.
4.3. By registering you accept the conditions and regulations of the ICSR2010 Robotic Design Competition as stated in this document.
4.4. Please observe in particular the conditions applicable as stated in section 8 to 12.
5. The Jury & Design Criteria
5.1. The jury (pending invitation) is composed of experts and industry leaders:
5.2. Judging will be based on originality, quality of content and impact of message.
5.3. The jury will award designs and concepts which best meet the judging criteria mentioned in the brief.
5.4. Submissions should be the applicant¡¯s own creation, shall not currently be in production and shall not previously have been published or exhibited.
6. Registration

6.2. The competition is an individual effort, meaning that group entries will not be accepted.
7. Deadline
7.1. Applicant submission will be accepted via an online submission: https://www.softconf.com/b/icsr2010-design/
7.2. When submitting your entry you will verify that you have accepted conditions as stated in this document.
7.3. Submission Deadline: 01 September, 2010
7.4. Shortlisted announcement: 01 October, 2010
7.5. Winner announcement: 23/24 November, 2010
8. Number of Submissions
8.1. Each applicant may submit only one entry.
9. Submission Content
9.1. One passport size photo (JPEG, 35 x 45 mm, 300 dpi) of the applicant
9.2. One A3 document not more than 3 pages (PDF only, maximum file size 3MB) with images (minimum 150 dpi) and explanation in English of your concept including:
9.2.1. Project title (will appear on all publicity materials)
9.2.2. Concept development (elaborate with illustration the inspiration and development behind the concept);
9.2.3. Innovation (brief description & illustration of the innovative aspects that supports your work);
9.2.4. In situ / environment (brief description & illustration of the concept operating/interacting with human in the intended environment)

9.4. Only shortlisted entries will be informed via email on 01 September 2010. Shortlisted entries will require to submit :
9.4.1. Three units Poster (A2) with high-resolution image(s)
9.4.2. One video presentation of the submitted concept (not more than 3mins, Maximum 50MB)
10. Intellectual Property Rights
10.1. The applicant represents and warrants that the work submitted is his/her own creation and that the work does not include nor infringe any third party intellectual property rights.
10.2. The applicant grants ICSR2010 a non-exclusive territorially unrestricted right to use the work free of charge for evaluation and publicity purposes.
10.3. The applicant acknowledges that the ICSR2010 conference proceeding could touch upon the same or identical concept submitted as part of the work, and this will not infringe the applicant’s intellectual property rights.
10.4. The applicant shall cooperate fully with ICSR2010 in connection therewith, upon becoming aware thereof, notify ICSR2010 of any and all possible or alleged third party infringements on ICSR2010 exclusive right in and to the work as well as any and all third party claims in relation to the works.
10.5. ICSR2010 shall not be obliged to use, publish or otherwise communicate the work to the public.
11. No Reimbursement or Employment
11.1. Applicants are not entitled to any compensation or reimbursement for any costs.
11.2. The applicant’s participation shall not constitute offer of employment or assignment, or participation to the conference.
12. Non-Disclosure
12.1. The applicant hereby undertakes to keep secret and not to disclose to any third party, and not to otherwise use, the work submitted under these Call for Entries and Competition Conditions.
12.2. In the event that the applicant has disclosed any such confidential ideas to third parties before submitting the competition entry, the applicant undertakes to inform ICSR2010 immediately of the nature and extent of any such disclosure.
13. Applicant’s Personal Data & Publicity Authorization
13.1. ICSR2010 will use the personal data you submit in connection with the competition for the purpose of administering the competition and evaluating the work. Any questions with regard to the use/correction of your personal data, please contact [email protected]
13.2. By taking part in the competition, the shortlisted entries authorize ICSR2010 to use their surname, first name, affiliation, photo and concept for any publicity purposes.
