Gravity Defiance

THEME:
The idea of gravity defiance is open to interpretation but can be seen as a final frontier in our elemental understanding of the physical universe, and an implicit goal in (almost) all constructions.

M&A, an experimental architecture and landscape research center, is calling for proposals for its next installation. The unique outdoor exhibit space in Los Angeles is dedicated to pushing new and underused ideas for art, landscape and architecture into view. We encourage the use of sustainable resources, renewable energy and smart technologies. The successful proposal will expand the application of materials beyond what typical commercial and residential project limits allow towards an inspiring structural implant that challenges and welcomes anyone.

Images, AutoCAD files, and dimensioned plans of the space are available upon request, send us an email. We encourage those who are putting together proposals to come visit our location if possible and think how they might engage the space and it’s visitors. Each installation must be site specific and propose a way of pushing the discipline of the artist forward beyond what they have done in the past. We are looking for projects that have a cradle-to-cradle design approach, incorporate new technologies, materials or techniques - and will benefit the artist’s research into the durability of their materials and processes by providing a valuable extended but temporary duration in the elements and within the public’s grasp.

Digital submittals, hard copy sketches, models, renders are all accepted. Unfortunately we don’t have the resources to return submissions.
