The Putting Lot will be a nine-hole miniature golf course occupying a vacant lot in Brooklyn for the summer of 2009. The site will include the course, a snack-shack and public seating. Recreation and fun will be the first priority, but visitors will also be able to experience Putt Putt as a means for embodying, moving through and actively engaging with art and ideas of urban sustainability.
Located in Bushwick, Brooklyn, this miniature golf course occupies what was once a vacant lot. Although unused, underutilized, and abandoned spaces are abundant in the immediate surroundings, art galleries, restaurants, and coffee shops have begun to appear. Taking advantage of this moment of fluctuation, The Putting Lot explores the possibility of an alternate use for these empty spaces.
Participants will design a miniature golf hole that explores the concept of urban sustainability through its concept, design, and construction. Stipends of up to $500 will be available for materials and participants will construct and install their design with optional additional labor during the month of May. Complete submission guidelines and information can be found at www.theputtinglot.org and submissions must be sent by Monday, April 27th at 6pm to [email protected].
