New London Neighbourhood Tour - Bankside

Saturday, Sep 8, 20182 PM - 4 PMBST

NLA, The Building Centre, 26 Store Street, WC1E 7BT London, GB London, GB | NLA, The Building Centre, 26 Store Street, WC1E 7BT

This area of London, along the south bank of the Thames, offers some of the most exciting and diverse spaces in the capital. With a generous supply of cultural buildings, transport links and river-side public realm, Bankside continues to see increased development of residential and workspace projects together with museum, gallery and theatre improvements.

Our walk from Southwark Underground station to London Bridge weaves through contrasting once forgotten back streets and bustling pedestrian thoroughfares to explore and understand Bankside's regeneration, including such game-changing projects as the Millennium Bridge, Tate Modern and the Shard. New residential by Rogers Stirk Harbour and office accommodation by Allies and Morrison amongst other practices, have transformed the area into arguably London’s most dynamic work/live hub. The train lines still criss-cross overhead but the perception of this once undesirable Dickensian backwater continues to evolve with the recent completion of Herzog and de Meuron's angular brick extension to Tate Modern.
