2021."
When we open the registration for the 27th World Congress of Architects UIA 2020 RIO, I am pleased to invite architects and urban planners from all over the world to join us in Rio de Janeiro, the Marvelous City.
Architects from all continents, urban thinkers, researchers, university students, builders, society and youth movements, technology and systems companies, academic and multilateral institutions, political and country representations, under the unique Rio scenario, are invited to compare experiences related to the construction of the space of social life. With architecture and urbanism as catalysts, we will debate and formulate proposals for the future of cities.
"All the Worlds. Just on ne World. Architecture 21." is the theme that structures the 2020 programming, in tune with the goals of the UN and UNESCO. It can be known in this same site, along with the four thematic axes that complement it.
The World Congress will take place in the Center of Rio de Janeiro, the historical site of the city, which will hold an architectural patrimony spanning four and a half centuries. This heritage includes magnificent examples from the Colonial Architecture to the Contemporary Architecture, where stands out one of the most important buildings of Modern Architecture, the former Ministry of Education and Culture, today Palazzo Capanema. Designed in 1936 by the team of then young architects, Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer, Jorge Moreira, Afonso Reidy, Ernani Vasconcelos and Carlos Leão, under the original risk of Le Corbusier, Capanema Palace will be one of the headquarters of the 27th World Congress of Architects.
A capital schedule is under development, including the participation of more than a hundred speakers, as well as workshops, roundtables, materials and systems fair, international undergraduate competition, international awards for architecture projects, urbanism and landscaping , among other activities.
Throughout the year, the city will host debates, lectures, exhibitions, and other cultural activities with the aim of enhancing the architecture and architecture of the city. culture, according to the millennium's challenges and the objectives of the UN.
The World Forum of UNESCO Cities will also take place on July 18 and 22 (new dates!), bringing together as guests the mayors of the city-headquarters of the world congresses and political, architectural, business and society leaderships, in the reflection on the future of our cities.
Rio de Janeiro is called by Marvelous City because of its rich architectural insertion in a splendid, unique geography that gave the conditions to develop a friendly, warm people with great artistic talent who knows how to receive their visitors and make them friends . The relationship between beaches, forests and built environment is odd, absolutely unforgettable.
Rio, however, is also a place to confront important challenges to 21st century architecture. City with relevant contrasts has in favelas one of the urban elements most representative of the difficulties of cities with exponential growth, characteristic of the emerging world. It is a challenge that Congress will reflect on.
The month of July is one of the best for visitation. It has a mild temperature, is usually governed by a warm sun, and allows the ample enjoyment of its natural and cultural beauties.
The city is capital of the homonymous state, also it privileged place. Numerous coastal and mountain towns are permanent attractions.
But Brazil is also a country full of opportunities for cultural and tourist enjoyment. It is worth knowing the charms of the Brazilian land, considered since the beginning of its colonization as a Paradise on Earth.
Welcome to Rio de Janeiro and to Brazil, dear colleagues from All Worlds.
Sincerely,
Sérgio Magalhães, president of the Organizing Committee of the 27th World Congress of Architects UIA 2020 RIO.
