We look forward to welcoming David Gissen, architecture historian and designer to speak as part of our 2019-20 lecture series.

David Gissen is University Professor (2019-20) at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna; Eero Saarinen Professor of Architecture at Yale University (2019); and former Professor at the California College of the Arts, where he was based for twelve years. He has held the position of Visiting Professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation and the PhD. program in the History, Theory, & Criticism of Architecture and Art (HTC) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He lectures and teaches in the areas of architecture, urban, and landscape history-theory, design, preservation, and architecture and urban writing.

David is the author of four books and over sixty essays. His books include the materialist study of architecture and the modern urban environment, Subnature: Architecture’s Other Environments (2009) and a history of New York City as told through struggles with the City’s air Manhattan Atmospheres (2014).
