Celebrate world-renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s birthday AND the 80th anniversary of his Pope-Leighey House on June 7th! Though the site is still closed, we will be hosting a special cocktail party fundraiser.
Pope-Leighey House is the only Frank Lloyd Wright house open to visitors in the Washington D.C. region! This house is the perfect example of one of Wright’s “Usonian” style homes that he began designing in the 1930s.
You can decorate your own Pope-Leighey House-inspired cake for our contest, dress up mid-century style and try one of out themed cocktails that night. You can even join us with Pope-Leighey as your backdrop. There'll be a Wright trivia game with prizes and a special Wright- focused online auction. We can't wait to see you!
Festivities will include:
- our usual mid-century costume contest. Who cares what you are wearing on the bottom half, but jazz up your virtual video 'game' with a special hat, or more. (You know who you are - come and wow us!)
- a Pope-Leighey or Wright- inspired cake competition. Who cares what it tastes like? We are only going to be judging your artistic talent!
- a really special trivia game with author Steven Reiss, who literally wrote the book about Pope-Leighey and promises to be really kind (no pressure, no pressure) and longtime museum guide, Peter Christensen (who loves trivia, but we are reigning him in). Sample question: What year was the Pope-Leighey House built (it is the 80th birthday)?
- a quick cocktail class with not one but two mid-century cocktails to try out at home with our cocktail maven, Emily. She will send ingredients out in advance.
