Architects, not Architecture - Mexico Edition
Together with you, we are touring the world to listen to the most celebrated architects of our time share their unique paths and talk to them about their challenges, dreams, and ideas. It is one country, two world-renowned names, and their unique stories of becoming and being an architect at each event.
On Thursday, May 20th, 2021, live at 13:00 CDT (CDMX time) / 20:00 CEST (Berlin time), we will welcome two of Mexico’s most influential architects. Register below to receive the access link to the live stream. Don’t worry – you can watch the event later via the link if you can’t join live.

Information about the speakers
Enrique Norten is the founder and director of TEN Arquitectos (Taller de Enrique Norten Arquitectos) with 35 years of experience and more than 60 built projects that have been recognized with various national and international distinctions. As an academic, he has taught the Miller, Emil Lorch, and Elliot Nayes Chairs of the Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Harvard Universities. He has also lectured at the Columbia University, the Pratt Institute, the Parsons School of Design, the Houston University, and the Universidad Iberoamericana and Cornell University as a guest professor.
Since 1986 he is an active member of the Colegio de Arquitectos de México and the Sociedad de Arquitectos de México (CAMSAM) and has been an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1997. In 2005 he received the Leonardo da Vinci World Arts Award and the Legacy Award from the Smithsonian Institution two years later. In 2018 Enrique Norten was recognized with the highest distinction of the Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes: the Fine Arts Medal of Architecture, the most important award that the institution grants based on his contributions and work, both nationally and internationally. Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed him a member of the Council for Cultural Diplomacy, thereby confirming his work within international architecture. www.ten-arquitectos.com
Gabriela Carrillo began her professional career in 1997 in “Vinculación y Proyectos Especiales” at UNAM. In 2001 she started collaborating with Mauricio Rocha. Together, they formed TallerRochaCarrillo in 2011, from which she established her own practice in 2017, Taller Gabriela Carrillo, where she develops public and private projects. In 2019, she started a collective that works with public projects called C733. She has been an academic for more than 15 years at the UNAM and others such as Harvard GSD, the WAVE program at the University of Venice, and the University of New Mexico.
She has received multiple national and international recognitions, such as the Emerging Voices Award in 2014, Federico Mariscal Chair in the Faculty of Architecture UNAM, the “Women Architect of the Year 2017” award granted by The Architectural Review, and the “Médaille d’Or Palmarés 2019”, which is the highest recognition from the Academy of Architecture of France. In 2020 she was awarded as “Architect of the year” by Architectural Digest Mexico and was a finalist for the Emerging Awards by The Architectural Review. www.gabrielacarrillo.mx
