The Julius Shulman Institute (JSI) at Woodbury University is pleased to announce James Florio as the recipient of this year’s Julius Shulman Institute Excellence in Photography Award. Florio’s work, “On Light, Time, and Materiality” will be exhibited at The BAG (2030 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles, CA ) with a free public opening April 22, 2022, 6-8 pm.

Past JSI Excellence in Photography Award honorees include Catherine Opie, James Welling, Victoria Sambunaris, Benny Chan, Livia Corona Benjamin, and Iwan Baan. The exhibition, titled “On Light, Time, and Materiality,” will present a selection of images from Radical Logic. This year Woodbury University’s JSI is pleased to present a “triple header” exhibition of the winners of the Julius Shulman Institute Award for Excellence in Photography from 2020, 2021 and 2022, at a new exhibition space in Silverlake. Please join us for a grand opening of James Florio, Lee Bey and Victoria Sambunaris at the BAG gallery.

The BAG is a new architecture and design focused gallery located in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Architect-run, it is an alternative model for the display of contemporary explorations of the built environment rooted in dialogue outside the bounds of academia and traditional museums.
