Copenhagen Architecture Festival: FOODSCAPES – By Eating We Digest Territories

Thursday, Feb 29, 20244:30 PM — Friday, Apr 26, 20245 PMCEST

Halmtorvet 27 Copenhagen, DK Copenhagen, DK | Halmtorvet 27

CAFx opens an exhibition on the overlooked architecture of our food systems.

Through an exhibition and event program Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) examines how our food systems shape our cities and landscapes.

Every time we eat, without being aware of it, we connect our plate to a plethora of remote sites: supermarkets, dark stores, greenhouses, farms, cold chains, logistics networks, warehouses, and wastelands. FOODSCAPES prompts us to focus on the overlooked but crucial architecture that supports our food systems, from the domestic laboratories of our kitchens to the vast operational landscapes that nourish our cities. FOODSCAPES surveys the current status of our food system to look toward the future and wonder about other possible models, capable of feeding the world without devouring the planet.

Amorim Cork, Oporto By Pedro Pegenaute

The exhibition is composed of three main parts: an audiovisual project of five short films, an archive in the form of a recipe book, and a comprehensive public programme. Through lectures, workshops, film screenings, and guided tours, we extend an invitation for you to engage in an exploration of the intricacies of global food systems, encouraging deeper understandings, unearthing hidden narratives, and cultivating a collective commitment to building more sustainable, equitable, and resilient futures for all.

Curated by Eduardo Castillo-Vinuesa & Manuel Ocaña, FOODSCAPES continues and expands the curatorial project presented at the Spanish Pavilion during the 18th International Venice Architecture Biennale. CAFx has brought the project to Copenhagen and adapted it to the local context and the exhibition space at Halmtorvet 27.
