Beyond Borders: Architecture Open

Wednesday, Jun 7, 20176 PM — Sunday, Jun 25, 20177 PMBST

Elephant and Castle London, GB London, GB | Elephant and Castle

Each summer, the RIBA gives practicing architects and students the opportunity to display their ideas and work through the Architecture Open. Architecture as a discourse has historically been an international discipline operating beyond and between borders. Responding to this year’s open-call theme, ‘Beyond Borders’, RIBA will exhibit projects that rethink the thresholds that divide nations, communities and families and consider the possibilities of our shared boundaries on global, local and domestic scales.

In partnership with the Peabody Trust, architecture practice Studio Gil and community group Carnaval del Pueblo are developing three vacant shop units on East Street in Elephant and Castle. The units will become a platform for Carnaval del Pueblo to deliver community classes but during June 2017 RIBA is working with Studio Gil to temporarily reconfigure the spaces to host the Architecture Open exhibition.

Works within the exhibition by:

  • ALEKSA studio
  • Erin Poppy Whalley
  • Intervention Architecture
  • Lingge Yang
  • MAC.3
  • Studio MORGENWIRDSBESSER
  • Niall Anderson & Ross Melbourne
  • PUG
  • Studio Cullen Williams and Benjamin Kee
  • Tohill Architects
  • WUH Architecture

A public evening preview celebrating the opening of this exhibition will take place on Wednesday 7 June from 6 to 9pm. All are welcome. Free admission.

Exhibition opening hours: Thursday to Sunday, midday to 7pm
