Fit City 4: Promoting Physical Activity Through Design CES: 3.5 LUs, 3.5 HSW, 3.5 SD When: 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM MONDAY, JUNE 8 Where: At The Center for Architecture Public officials, health professionals, architects, developers, and design professionals will speak on how building design and urban policy decisions increase physical activity and help to prevent chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. The conference will present the new New York City Active Design Guidelines. Jointly developed by the Departments of Design and Construction, Health and Mental Hygiene, Transportation, and City Planning, the Guidelines will advise architects, designers, and planners on how to incorporate physical activity-promoting design components into their projects. Public officials, health professionals, architects, developers, and design professionals will speak on how building design and urban policy decisions increase physical activity and help to prevent chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. Keynote speakers: Professor John Pucher, Rutgers University, Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy; Dr. Gayle Nicoll, Chair of Department of Architecture, University of Texas at San Antonio Other speakers include: DOHMH Commissioner Thomas Frieden, MD, MPH; DDC Commissioner David Burney, FAIA; DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan; DCP Commissoner Amanda Burden, FAICP Private sector architects, developers, and public relations experts will also discuss how these guidelines can be used. http://cfa.aiany.org/index.php?section=calendar&evtid=557
