Now that vehicles have been banned around Times Square and Herald Square, it’s the perfect time for pedestrians to take to the streets and learn about the architecture and design of Midtown. New York School of Interior Design is offering a two-part course, New York Now: Midtown—A Lecture and Walking Tour. It’s just the right mix of fun and education and a great activity for those stuck in New York this summer. Matthew Postal, architectural and interior design historian and co-author of Guide to New York City Landmarks, will take you through some of the outstanding examples of recent architecture and interiors in Midtown Manhattan. A range of noteworthy contemporary projects will be visited, from flagship stores and chic hotels to colossal mixed-use towers. He will also touch on current developments in sustainable design, as well as the impact of public policy and government regulation. New York Now: Midtown—A Lecture and Walking Tour will take place on Thursday, June 18, 6:30 – 8pm (lecture at NYSID) and Saturday, June 20, 10am – 4pm (walking tour) for $280. The course is one of many classes offered at NYSID’s new Institute for Continuing and Professional Studies.
