New York-based d3, is pleased to announce the d3 Natural Systems exhibition to be held in association with Grace Gallery at CUNY-New York City College of Technology from October 15-23. Winning and selected submissions will be displayed from the 2009 competition. Please join d3 at the opening reception on Thursday, October 15 from 7pm to 9pm. Grace Gallery is located in Brooklyn at 300 Jay Street, Namm Hall, 11th Floor. Developed by co-curators Gregory Marinic and Mary-Jo Schlachter, assisted by curatorial intern Siliva Portilla, the program promotes investigation of natural systems from microscopic to universal toward determining new architectonic strategies. The competition invited architects, designers, engineers, and students to collectively explore the potential for analyzing, documenting, and deploying nature-based, sustainable influences in urbanism, architecture, interiors, and designed objects. The jury, a panel of New York-based architects and designers engaged in sustainable practices and computational explorations included Gil Akos of Mode, Colin Cathcart of Kiss+Cathcart Architects, Chris Lasch of Aranda/Lasch Architects, Ronnie Parsons of Mode, and Roland Snooks of Kokkugia. d3 advisory board members Sandra McKee and Hiroki Yoshihara of the international design firm Yoshihara McKee Architects hosted the event in their New York studio. The competition awarded seven prizes, with first place captured by London-based Kenny Kinugasa-Tsui and Lorene Faure for their project: “Urban Agriculture: Hybridized Farm Bridge as City Gardenâ€.
