Friday • January 29 • 6:30 PM Saturday • January 30 • 1:00 PM Saarinen @ 100 A two-day program, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Eero Saarinen's birth, will explore the architect's contemporary relevance by discussing his legacy and relationship to the media. On Friday, at Columbia University, GSAPP, join Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen, Yale School of Architecture, Reinhold Martin, Columbia University, GSAPP, and architect Marc Tsurumaki, Lewis Tsurumaki Lewis, in a panel moderated by Juulia Kauste, Director of the Finnish Cultural Institute / Director-elect of the Museum of Finnish Architecture. On Saturday, the Museum of the City of New York will present a discussion examining one of the truly contemporary aspects of Saarinen's career: his unabashed engagement with the media. Journalist Cathleen McGuigan will speak on the life and career of Aline Saarinen, Eero Saarinen's wife and public relations expert; she will be joined by scholar Sandy Isenstadt, who will explore the theatricality of Saarinen's work. Exhibition curator Donald Albrecht, the Museum's Curator of Architecture and Design, will moderate the discussion. Friday program will take place at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and is free of charge.
