Daiwa Foundation Japan House, 13/14 Cornwall Terrace, London NW1 4QP 15 July 2008 6.00pm-8.00pm Organised by The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Inspired by the current exhibition at Daiwa Foundation Japan House, this seminar will explore the relationship between architecture, media and photography in the innovative contemporary architecture of Japan. Contributors: Edmund Sumner is a London-based photographer specializing in the areas of architecture and design. He has worked throughout the world, principally in Japan, the United States and Europe. Since 1995, Edmund has been working as a freelance photographer and his work is often seen in publications such as Architectural Review, Domus, Icon, Wallpaper*, The Guardian and The Sunday Telegraph. He was the feature of a documentary on CNN's Design 360 in 2003 and was filmed at work in Italy for the BBC's Culture Show. Edmund had a solo show at Browse and Darby in 2006, and several pieces of his work were included in the Christie's Post War and Contemporary art sale in 2007 and 2008. Yuki Sumner is a writer on contemporary architecture. After graduating from Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London, she worked for various architects, including David Chipperfield and Caruso St John, where she developed an interest in how architecture is represented in the media. She is currently writing a book on contemporary Japanese architecture and studying the masters in architectural history at the Bartlett School of Architecture. Takero Shimazaki studied architecture at the University of Wales, Cardiff and The Bartlett School of Architecture, London. He has worked for the practices of Itsuko Hasegawa Atelier and the Richard Rogers Partnership. In these studios he worked on the Daimler Benz Headquarters, Berlin and the Cardiff Opera House. He co-founded t-sa with Yuli Toh. He is currently a visiting lecturer at Oxford Brookes University School of Architecture, University of East London and TU in Graz, Austria. Vicky Richardson (Chair) is Editor of Blueprint. She has a strong interest in Japan and, following a visit to Sendai and Tokyo in 2007, produced a special issue of the magazine focusing on Japanese architecture and design. She is also Chair of the Architecture Centre Network, and a trustee of the educational charity, the Campaign for Drawing. And also a regular jury member for design and architecture awards, including the RIBA Awards; and 100% Design/Blueprint Awards. She was shortlisted as Editor of the Year by the British Society of Magazine Editors in 2007.
