Symposium: 'Concrete Geometries - Spatial Form in Social and Aesthetic Processes' at the Architectural Association Friday 15th October 2010 20 international artists and architects discuss the potential of spatial geometry as a socially engaged and experientially relevant tool. With Toni Kotnik, Christine Rusche, Eric Martijn, Jaime Gili, Jane Hutton & Adrian Blackwell, Craig Scott, Susanne Hofmann, Sandra Manninger, Kathrin Böhm, Fran Cottell, Isabelle Doucet, Robert Mantho & Joanna Crotch, Graziela Kunsch & Rafi Segal, Sabine Müller, Lukas Einsele and Vincent Wittenberg. Guest chaired by: Kieran Long, Ines Weizman and Christian Derix Thematic Field A: Geometry and Perception Block 1: 10.00 - 11.30: Perception and Cognition Block 2: 11.45 - 13.15: Sensory Engagement Thematic Field B: Geometry and Social Processes Block 3: 14.00 - 15.15: Relational Space Block 4: 15.45 - 17.15: Social Contracts Concrete Geometries is a work-in-progress term derived from the synthesis of 'concrete', registering an existing reality or actual experience, and the abbreviation 'geometries', denoting spatial form. Set up as a research cluster at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, and directed by Marianne Mueller and Olaf Kneer, Concrete Geometries is devoted to the intimate relationship between spatial form and human processes - be they social or aesthetic - and the variety of new material entities this relationship might provoke.
