What is the relationship between the violence of structural change and personal assault? In her newly published book Rape New York, artist and architect Jana Leo revisits the violence she experienced as a victim of home invasion and rape in her Harlem apartment, and positions this rape and its pitfalls and aftermath—personal and legal—within the violence wrought by gentrification, greed and forces that conspire to keep specific places unsafe. Join her for a conversation with Michelle J. Anderson, Dean of CUNY School of Law, and the author of numerous journal articles, including "Rape Law Reform Based on Negotiation: Beyond the Yes and No Models," in CRIMINAL LAW CONVERSATIONS. Jana Leo is a conceptual artist with degrees in philosophy and architecture. In 2007 Leo started Civic Gaps, and in 2008 Fundación Mosis, both think tanks dedicated to studying neglected spaces in the city.
