THE LEAN YEARS P+ARG Exhibit Opening

Infrastructure, Dwelling, and Sustenance March 8, 2011 06:30 PM Taubman College Gallery (Rm 2106) Art + Architecture Building The Lean Years is an interdisciplinary conference and design exhibit organized by the Planning + Architecture Research Group (P+ARG) at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. The exhibit opens March 8, 2011 and will run through the conference, which takes place at The University of Michigan campus on March 18-19, 2011. This combined event will provide an opportunity to bridge current economic conditions with overarching issues of urban form, housing, natural resources, culture, and justice. For the majority of the planet’s population, these are lean years, but they serve to bring both ecological limits and structural inequalities into sharper focus. Along with the conference, the exhibit is especially interested in exploring alternative design strategies and policies that foster community empowerment, innovation, and adaptation. The exhibit includes work from current students, faculty and alumni from Taubman College, as well as designers from Harvard University, Woodbury University, and The Ohio State University.
