Design Hotels Future Forum 2008

Thursday, Oct 16, 20085:36 AM — Saturday, Oct 18, 20085:36 AMEDT

Berlin, Germany | Berlin, Germany

Symposium in Berlin The annual architecture and design symposium for hospitality 2008 takes place in Berlin and will be curated by Gestalten. After the success of last year's Gestalten-curated Future Forum in Barcelona, we are looking forward to once again hook up with Design Hotels™ for another memorable event. The topics introduced and discussed by internationally renowned speakers (a.o. Stephen Burks, Jason Miller and Miami-based collective FriendsWithYou) include: Human / Design This years Design Hotels™ Future Forum addresses the eternal question about the relationship between the human being and design along the two most relevant developments in the international world of design at the moment and connects them to recent and future developments in the hospitality industry. While on the one side design addresses the human wish for identity, uniqueness, status and luxury (“Design as Art”), on the other side it aims at being responsible and socially involved, thus solving problems and addressing the needs of society as a whole (“Conscious Design”). Design as Art Boosted by events like Design Miami / Art Basel, galleries and auction houses including the biggest names in contemporary design are getting more and more involved with the world of collectors and art investors. For some designers this lead to the creation of exclusive, iconic and unique pieces, while others – namely last years' Future Forum speaker Jurgen Bey – see an even bigger potential in a new freedom for exploring future design scenarios with a limited edition budget. Conscious Design With the term sustainability being the most prominent buzz-word of recent months, the true relevance of the discussion behind it has tremendously influenced mass- as well as nice-market dynamics and will continue and increase to do so in the foreseeable future. Some of the world’s brightest designers have started working away from the omnipresent feeling of guilt and helplessness towards the most innovative, appealing and responsible opportunities of conscious and sustainable design. Form Follows Values By bringing together some of the most innovative minds in the contemporary design world and by discussing their experience in relation to the topics of the hospitality industry the 2008 Future Forum continues being an informal, informative and highly inspirational event.
