Southwark streets will be alive this weekend with free parties bringing innovative new design and music to the public in celebration of the London Architecture Festival. Bop To Architecture events will take place in specially-created ‘urban living rooms’, reclaiming abandoned areas of the city and conjuring up the atmosphere of urban festivals. With its purpose-built mobile sound ‘furniture’, Bop encourages people to celebrate the fun, lighthearted side of design. The 3-day event, in various locations around Southwark, invites passers-by to sink into an armchair, have a cup of tea and sample commissioned music using sounds recorded on Southwark streets by local students and musicians. In the evening, the mobile soundsystem will turn the space into a public dance-floor where everyone can bop away into the early hours! Events will take place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 1pm and 11pm at various venues in the Southwark area… Fri 11th July: Shad Thames, adjacent to Tower Bridge Sat 12th July: Great Suffolk Street, under the arches Sun 13th July: Flat Iron Square, under railway arches The East London Design Bureau develops installations that show how architecture is not just about the built environment – it’s about how we use the space within it. Co-Director Sam Potts explains: “’Bop’ embraces architecture but is essentially fun, irreverent, and can be enjoyed by all! We hope to liven up abandoned areas and let people connect with spaces in a way they normally wouldn’t.†For more information please visit: www.eastlondondesignbureau.com/boptoarchitecture/ or contact Sam at [email protected] .
