Sydney Architecture Festival celebrates the city's architecture and aims to engage the public in exploring critical aspects of sustainability in the built environment.
The 2008 Sydney Architecture Festival is focussed on Circular Quay - the Gateway to Sydney. Held on Monday 6 October, World Architecture Day, the Festival will feature architectural tours of the city; activities at the World Heritage listed Sydney Opera House; talks, exhibitions and kids activities at Customs House; tours of Cockatoo Island and much more.
The Festival is presented by the Australian Architecture Association, the Australian Institute of Architects, and the NSW Architects Registration Board.
The Festival has received festival funding from the City of Sydney and the Lord Mayor is Festival Patron. The buzz of activity will focus on Customs House Sydney, Sydney Opera House, Cockatoo Island and our city streets with activities hosted by our event partners including Customs House Sydney, Sydney Opera House, Historic Houses Tust, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, Powerhouse Museum and the National Trust of Australia (NSW).
The Festival provides thought - provoking new perspectives on Sydney by developing the community's appreciation and enjoyment of good architecture and communicating the importance of good design in achieving a sustainable, healthy and culturally rich built environment.
