Design + Build Workshop, Cambodia Building Trust international have a number of sustainable design and build projects in Cambodia in 2014. From health centres, schools, wildlife conservation and low cost housing. We are offering a hands on participatory workshop where volunteers will gain experience in sustainable building techniques and understand more about humanitarian design while building worthwhile projects that will have a huge benefit to the local community and local wildlife. Due to the fact we will have a number of projects on the ground volunteers will gain an insight into a number of building techniques and architectural styles. What workshop participants will learn: We are happy to announce that we will be working alongside internationally acclaimed conservation charity, The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). Birdwatchers from across Asia and beyond flock to Cambodia for a glimpse of two of the world's rarest birds: the giant ibis and its cousin the white-shouldered ibis. The birds’ nesting grounds sit at the outskirts of Tmatboey, a rural village where WCS has worked with the community to develop an eco-tourism project. This ground breaking project has turned villagers into custodians of the natural habitats the wildlife around them inhabit. Protecting threatened forests and in doing so providing an income to the whole community. Building Trust international has been requested by WCS to work with the local community in Tmatboey, in the north of Cambodia to design and construct a new lodge facility for WCS's well established eco-tourism project. The details of the build will depend on the design that is chosen by the community. The sooner people sign up the more chance there is to be involved in the design process as well as the build component. We want participants to get involved and have a role in the concept design and material selection for the new lodges. These designs will then be reviewed and assessed by the local community, WCS leaders and our Building Trust workshop team, with feedback given at the end of each stage. It is up to each participant as to how much involvement they want to provide, with some people preferring to solely get involved with the construction stages of the design + build workshop. This is a hands on course working with others to learn on-site skills such as site management and sustainable material procurement. Volunteers will also see first-hand how we promote and work with local communities taking on traditional skills and a host of other sustainable building techniques.
