Los Angeles, CARelated
In conjunction with the special exhibition Frank Gehry, a series of presentations will address Gehry's central areas of interest—art, science, and music—through conversations between the architect and long-standing collaborators and friends. The second of these, Gehry and Science, features a conversation between Gehry and acclaimed scientist Arnold J. Levine, Systems Biology Professor Emeritus, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. Levine, widely honored for his discoveries in cancer research, and Gehry have known each other for decades. In this conversation, they will discuss Gehry's careful consideration of those who use his buildings and how that impacts his process. While the architect is especially known for museums, concert halls, and residences, he has designed the Peter B. Lewis Science Library at Princeton University, the Stata Center for Computer Information and Intelligence Sciences at MIT, and the Dr. Chau Chak Wing at the University of Technology in Sydney. In these projects, he has kept in mind the cross-disciplinary interaction and collaboration that take place in the sciences, as well as the need for private space. Dr. Levine, who for years was a member of the science faculty at Princeton University, can speak directly to those diverse needs, and discuss with Gehry how he approached these projects. Tickets: Free, but STANDBY ONLY. No reserved tickets remaining. A standby line will form at 1 p.m. at the entrance to the Resnick Pavilion. More event info at lacma.org/event/gehry-and-science
