2009 Fellows Showcase Speaker Series: Inspire | Clive Piercy

Friday, Mar 20, 20094 AMEDT

Los Angeles, CA | Los Angeles, CA

We are excited to bring you the first session in our Fellows Speaker Series: Inspire. Stories overheard about Clive Piercy: 1. He started his first design office in a laundromat 2. He played football for Manchester (that's in England) 3. He holds the Guinness Record for the longest foldout design presentation in the world One thing we know is true: Clive has a passion for design. And on March 19th we'll find out why. He'll also share his stunning (and very effective) work, confess an annoyance or two, embarrass himself with hair-raising client stories, and enlighten us with his take on designing in a foreign land (L.A.) for over 25 years. Bring your questions and let him have it. You won't be sorry. Clive will share the conversation with moderator John Sabel, Executive Vice President of Creative Print Advertising for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and a longtime collaborator. Reservation & Ticket Information Members $20 Non-members $30 Student members $10 Student non-members $15 Please register by March 18, 2009 9 p.m. Tickets will be an additional $10.00 extra when purchased at the door. Parking Info Paid parking lot for $9 north of the theater is available as well as street parking. Clive Piercy is the founder and Principal of the Santa Monica-based design studio air-conditioned. For the previous 20 years he was a partner and Creative Director of Ph.D, a studio recognized internationally for work that was characterized by its appropriateness, character, wit and style. His work for clients such as Nike, Peerless Lighting, Chronicle Books and Roxy/Quiksilver has won awards from most of the major national and international design competitions. He graduated from Brighton College of Art, in England, and began his career as a designer in the prestigious BBC Television Design Department, before moving to Los Angeles to be Creative Director of the Rod Dyer Group. He serves on the faculty of Art Center College of Design, California, is married to the illustrious illustrator Ann Field, and is a lifelong supporter of Tottenham Hotspur FC. John Sabel is Executive Vice President of Creative Print Advertising for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. He has worked on numerous standout marketing campaigns such as Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Narnia, Pirates of the Caribbean and most recently the Oscar-winning Wall-E to name a few. About The Fellow Award The Fellow Award is a national AIGA initiative founded in 1999. The program is a means of recognizing mature designers who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within their local or regional design community as well as in their local AIGA chapter. The areas of education, writing, leadership and reputation, as well as the practice of design are given equal consideration in measuring significant contribution.
