Detour: Code arkitektur - Henning Kaland

Thursday, Apr 2, 20093 AMEDT

New York, NY | New York, NY

Detour: Code arkitektur Henning Kaland Wednesday, April 1 7:00 p.m. The Urban Center 457 Madison Avenue Code was established in Oslo in 1997, by partners Bjarne Ringstad, Julian Lynghjem, Gaute Stensrud, and Henning Kaland. Ole Einejord joined the firm as partner in 1999. Henning Kaland will present the firm’s work with a particular emphasis on its commissions for Norway’s National Tourist Route project – a network of scenic byways, viewing platforms, and roadside pull-offs. The twelve-person firm describes its practice as a “positive, non-judgmental approach to the present. Within our work lies a consciousness about the coexistence of factors such as landscape, texture, culture, politics, sustainability, performance, and economics.” Code has won a number of national and international architecture competitions for projects, including private residences, office buildings, schools, hotels, and urban development projects. Current projects include residential housing in Tromsø, Hokksund, and Oslo, as well as National Tourist Route projects in Senja and Gaularfjell. Code was recently invited as one of ten architects worldwide for the competition on a new Edvard Munch museum in Oslo. Code’s work has been exhibited in Oslo, London, Venice, and Hamburg, among other places. The firm’s partners maintain active teaching and lecturing schedules at several universities and organizations in Norway and abroad. Henning Kaland graduated from the Bergen School of Architecture in 1993, after work in carpentry. Kaland is one of the firm’s founding partners, is currently leading the office, and has initiated Code’s focus on sustainability. He lectures and teaches widely and serves on the Oslo Council of Architecture. Tickets are required for admission to League programs. Tickets are free for League members; $10 for non-members. Members may reserve a ticket by e-mailing: [email protected]. Member tickets will be held at the check-in desk; unclaimed tickets will be released fifteen minutes after the start of the program. Non-members may purchase tickets online here, beginning Wednesday, March 25 until six hours before the program start. Purchased tickets are available for pick-up at the check-in desk and are non-refundable. For more information on our ticketing policy, click here; for general information, email [email protected] or call 212.753.1722 x13. AIA and New York State continuing education credits are available. The League thanks the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York for its assistance in helping to make this program possible. This program was also made possible in part by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. http://archleague.org/index-dynamic.php?show=875 The Urban Center, 457 Madison Avenue
