To Change: Austin Geography & History

Wednesday, Oct 4, 20234:12 PM — Sunday, Dec 31, 20234:12 PMCST

Online Event | Click here to attend and/or register

The new virtual exhibit To Change shows Austin as a place with beautiful natural resources that has attracted people for over 16,000 years. These people created the culture and communities that define Austin. With colonial settlement and land development, economic and social factors did not create equitable experiences or opportunities for all its residents. To Change looks at land use, demographics, and family histories. The exhibit also shows the process of digitizing information about the 23,000 "residents" buried in Oakwood Cemetery.

Community members gave feedback on a project to create a 3D model of the Historic Colored Grounds funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The exhibit allows readers to consider how our approach to equity, race, and ethnicity has changed as our awareness as humans evolves.  You can view the virtual exhibit online.
