Beta – Timișoara Architecture Biennial 2026, In Practice, as opposed to ‘in theory’ edition

Beta – Timișoara Architecture Biennial is one of Eastern Europe’s dynamic biennial platforms for architectural discourse and practice, established by the Timiș Territorial Branch of the Romanian Order of Architects. The 2026 edition, In Practice, as opposed to ‘in theory’, reimagines the traditional architecture biennial format by engaging the historic yet underused former Ion Mincu Technical College as a living laboratory for architectural action. Rather than simply presenting exhibitions, the event invites participants to intervene with the site through spatial repairs, transitions and experimental in-residence design practices that blur the boundary between exhibition and construction.

For architects, designers and interdisciplinary collaborators, this biennial is an opportunity to explore architecture as a continuous process of making, testing and dialogue, foregrounding material reuse, community engagement and contextually responsive design . Across its program, Beta bridges theory and practice by celebrating experimentation that acknowledges architectural complexity and positions built form as a site of collective inquiry and urban transformation.
